What is a Will?

A Will is a legal document that sets out all your wishes for when you pass away. It allows you to set out how you want your assets distributed (this is known as your estate), who will look after your kids and pets, and instructions for your funeral.

A Will is important because it is the only way that you can control how this process plays out. If you die without a Will (known as dying 'intestate'), this process plays out in the Court, which can be very stressful.

The components of your Will likely include:

  • Who will look after your children and pets

  • How your assets and estate should be distributed

  • Any specific gifts you want to leave to those people or organisations close to you

  • Who will be responsible for administering your estate (known as your Executor)

  • Any requests you may have for your funeral

Wills are legal documents and your Executor will do their best to make sure all your wishes are followed. It is therefore essential that you make a Will, and keep it up-to-date whenever anything in your life changes.

Thankfully, writing and updating your Will has been made easy and affordable with Safewill. For the first time, you can write your Will in under 30 minutes, and access unlimited updates to your Will through your Safewill account. There's no excuse anymore - get started for free today.
